Living in Grand Marais puts you close to
nature. In fact about 75% of Burt Township is either
state or federal forest. I can look out the window and see the famous
Lake Superior "Storms of November". The wind
really does roar. Of course we are close to the wildlife
- particularly deer - as they come into town scrounging
for food in the winter. Yes, the snow does fall - 203
inches in 04-05. Thankfully the snow blower can handle
it. Driving out of town before the roads are plowed
early in the morning darkness can be tough. Karen's
accident in November 04 can attest to that. Alger County
puts a new meaning in the term "unimproved
road".
During the first year, I was not
convinced that summer comes to Grand Marais. The furnace
came on almost every day in June, July and August. Of
course everyone told me this was not usual weather. For
those of you who wonder what I do here, I COMPLAIN ABOUT
THE WEATHER A LOT.
Take a look around to see what living
here in Grand Marais is all about. The Grand Marais photo gallery is
my attempt to display the photos that I've accumulated.
Most of the photographs cover the area around Grand
Marais as well as other photographs taken during my
trips around the UP. Hopefully, you will agree that these
photographs represent the UP.
